FAQ : 0-6 Year Classes
WHat Should I expect?
These classes have been modified, moulded and planned over the last 30 years by Lynn Kleiner, a renowned musician and teacher. They are specifically catered to early childhood and are not only educational; they are fun!
We envelop your child in musical language (even using terms like tempo and tremolo right from the get-go!) focusing on beat, rhythm and movement. We are developing their brains, targeting all known parts of the brain! Did you know that math and English are drastically improved by studying music? We work on the vestibular system in babies, helping them to find their core and centre of gravity. We work on fine motor and gross motor skills as they grow older. We target their ear (how they hear music) and vocal chords, teaching them pitch-matching. Did you know that babies have an incredible range that we lose as we get older, but if we encourage it at a young age, they’re more likely to keep it!? We also work in ensembles from day one using not only different instruments but also different types of sounds and feels.
The aim is to create a place where your child learns to love and appreciate music in all it’s forms, because we love what we know. They are never too young to start and the younger the better.
WHERE ARE THE LESSONS?
All classes are at the Greenwood Studio.
Tuesday mornings for babies, toddlers & kids. Tuesday afternoons for big kids.
HOW LONG ARE THE LESSONS?
45-minute classes packed full of fun (40mins for Big Kids.) Please arrive 5 minutes early to ensure you are there on time. We start on the dot with exploration and fun music.
Please see the classes page for more details.
WHAT DO I NEED?
In Simply Music Piano, you need to purchase the books (that comes with DVD & CD) that help you learn and practice at home. You would also need a keyboard or piano to learn on.
It is no different in music classes. There is an instrument kit for each level (Babies, Toddlers, Kids, Big Kids & Young Musicians) that have all the instruments we will use over the year PLUS a DVD & CD (your choice of online or physical copy) to help you practice at home and enjoy music all week long.
All instruments are by Remo and are thoroughly safety-checked for all ages and stringently follow the safety guidelines. They are amazing instruments that sound great and will last. You only need to purchase one pack and as your child grows, you just purchase one or two instruments to add to it - there's no need to rebuy a whole new kit.
I am currently talking to Remo & Simply Music Rhapsody about the cost – this ranges from $75-$90.
WHAT DO I BRING?
Your instrument kit needs to come with you to every lesson. Although I have a couple of spares, I do not have one for every child in the class as they quickly add up! Please make sure you have your kit with you, as we will use it.
CAN'T I JUST BUY MY OWN INSTRUMENTS?
Although in the short term it may seem cheaper to buy your own instruments, it doesn’t work out in the long term. Instruments you find at K-mart or online are often not well made and have a terrible sound! While it might be enjoyable the first few times, I can guarantee your child won’t want to play it again and again. It is better to spend a little more to get a great-sounding instrument, of great quality, with safety approval. That’s why we’ve done the research for you to bring you the best.
FOOD IN LESSONS
Food is asked not to be brought into class. Aside from allergies, there is no time to eat J HOWEVER, milk (of any kind, for any age) or water is absolutely fine! Feel free to breastfeed as necessary.
DO I WEAR ANYTHING PARTICULAR?
Comfortable clothing – for both you and your child! High heels are not recommended as we will be moving around the room and sitting down/standing up.
WHAT IF I NEED TO CHAT TO YOU?
You are always welcome to email me or phone me during the week and I’ll respond as soon as I can. Toddlers & Babies classes can chat to me at the beginning of class, Kids classes can chat to me at the end of class if you have any queries or concerns.
